For the month of August, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will make a total of five benefit payments, two of which should have already reached certain beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The agency posts its full-year payment schedule on its website ahead of time, enabling beneficiaries to know exactly when to expect their monthly Social Security income throughout the year.

The SSA’s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments lists both regular Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment dates. SSI is generally paid on the first of the month, and regular Social Security benefits are paid on Wednesdays throughout the month.

Having just passed the halfway mark of the month, two of August’s five total payments have already gone out, while three more remain. Here is everything you need to know—and which dates to watch if you receive Social Security benefits.

Social Security benefit payment schedule for August

The Social Security program currently pays benefits to tens of millions of individuals, including retirees, disabled individuals, and survivors. Additionally, the program pays SSI to individuals who are 65 or older, or blind, who have little to no other resources available to them. In certain cases, some beneficiaries may qualify to receive both regular Social Security benefits and SSI.

Regular Social Security benefits are paid on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month. The specific Wednesday on which a beneficiary receives a monthly payment is determined by date of birth. For August, regular Social Security benefits will be paid on:

  • Second Wednesday, August 13 — recipients with birth dates from the 1st to the 10th
  • Third Wednesday, August 20 — recipients with birth dates from the 11th to the 20th
  • Fourth Wednesday, August 27 — recipients with birth dates from the 21st to the 31st

Beneficiaries with birth dates from the 1st to the 10th should have already received their monthly benefit as of August 13. However, the SSA notes on the schedule: “If you don’t receive your payment on the expected date, please allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.”

Supplemental Security Income payment

SSI recipients received their August payment on the first of the month. The schedule also shows a second SSI payment on August 29. This is the September SSI payment being made a few days early. As a result, there will be no SSI payment in September.

If the first of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the SSA often issues the SSI payment at the end of the previous month to prevent delays. The agency also notes: “If you received Social Security before May 1997 or if receiving both Social Security & SSI, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st.”

Remaining SSI payment dates for 2025:

  • August 1 — SSI benefit for August
  • August 29 — SSI benefit for September
  • October 1 — SSI benefit for October
  • October 31 — SSI benefit for November
  • December 1 — SSI benefit for December
  • December 31 — SSI benefit for January 2026
