As the final week of August sets in, along with it comes the final round of Social Security benefit payments for the month. The Social Security Administration (SSA) will be rolling out two types of payments this week, however. The first will be the regular Social Security benefit payment on Wednesday, August 27th. This payment will be made to beneficiaries who have birth dates from the 21st to the 31st of their birth month.
The second payment rolling out from the agency will be the Supplemental Security Income benefit payment for the month of September. The agency will be paying out this benefit a few days early. As such, rather than on September 1st, SSI beneficiaries can expect to receive their September SSI benefit at the end of August which is later this week.
Here is a complete outline of the Social Security Administration’s Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments.
Social Security payment schedule
The benefit payment schedule for the full calendar year for both the regular Social Security benefit, as well as the Supplemental Security Income benefit can be found on the SSA’s website. With regards to the regular Social Security benefit, the agency follows a consistent pattern when rolling out the monthly benefit checks.
Beneficiaries of the regular Social Security benefit can expect to receive their monthly income on either the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on their date of birth. Those born in the first third of the month will receive their benefits on the second Wednesday, those born during the second third of their birth month will receive their benefits on the third Wednesday of each month, and those born in the final third of the month will receive their benefits on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
There remains one more Social Security benefit payment for the current month of August which will be sent out on the 27th. Listed below are the payment dates for the regular Social Security benefit for both the current month of August, as well as the upcoming month of September:
August:
- Second Wednesday, August 13th – recipients with birth dates from the 1st of the month to the 10th
- Third Wednesday, August 20th – recipients with birth dates from the 11th of the month to the 20th
- Fourth Wednesday, August 27th – recipients with birth dates from the 21st of the month to the 31st
September:
- Second Wednesday, September 10th – recipients with birth dates from the 1st of the month to the 10th
- Third Wednesday, September 17th – recipients with birth dates from the 11th of the month to the 20th
- Fourth Wednesday, September 24th – recipients with birth dates from the 21st of the month to the 31st
SSI benefit payment
Unlike with the regular Social Security benefit payment dates, the Supplemental Security Income benefit payment dates can sometimes fluctuate slightly. Generally speaking, SSI payments are made on the first of each month. However, for whatever reason deemed necessary by the SSA, the SSI benefit payment is sometimes made at the end of the previous month instead. This often occurs if the first of the month falls on a non-working day such as a holiday or the weekend.
Even if the SSI payment is made early, beneficiaries need not take any action regarding this as the early payment dates are still clearly marked on the agency’s payment schedule. This is the case for the August – September period as well. As per the schedule, there will be no SSI payment for the entirety of September because the SSI for that month will be paid at the end of this week on August 29th.
Listed below are the remaining SSI payment dates for 2025:
- August 1st – SSI benefit for August
- August 29th – SSI benefit for September
- October 1st – SSI benefit for October
- October 31st – SSI benefit for November
- December 1st – SSI benefit for December
- December 31st – SSI benefit for January 2026
