A huge government recall alert has just hit Ford after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced two major recalls affecting more than 624,000 Ford cars and trucks. The latest recall notices affect popular models like the Ford Mustang and Super Duty pickup trucks. These vehicles have safety concerns such as seat belt corrosion and faulty rearview camera systems. These defects compromise safety as they could increase the risk of injury or accidents.
Two Separate Recalls Target Ford’s Most Popular Models
Recall documents filed with the NHTSA indicate that the first recall affects 332,778 Ford Mustang vehicles from model years 2015 to 2017. These vehicles have corroded front seat belt pretensioner cables, which could weaken the seat belts’ ability to restrain a passenger in the event of a crash.
The recall shows that water and road salt may corrode the front seat belt anchor pretension cables. This defect is likely to occur in regions where salt is commonly used to clear snow on roads during winter. Ford stated that the defective part was installed between February 2014 and October 2017, before a new supplier was tasked with seat belt production.
Ford has instructed its dealers to inspect and replace both front seat belt pretensioner assemblies. Any carpeting that might be in contact with the affected cables will also be removed. Affected owners are assured that the repairs and replacement of the affected parts will be done free of charge. The company will send notification letters to affected owners this month, while follow-up letters will be sent once a final remedy is ready, probably by January 2026.
Ford Trucks Recalled for Faulty Rearview Cameras
The second major recall affects 291,901 Ford Super Duty pickups, including 2020–2022 F-250, F-350, and F-450 models. These vehicles have defective 360-degree rearview camera systems, which may fail to display images correctly in certain lighting conditions.
According to the recall notice, under certain lighting conditions, the rearview camera may create overexposed or underexposed visuals that could impair a driver’s visibility when reversing. This defect violates federal safety standards for rear visibility (FMVSS No. 111) because it increases the risk of collision when reversing.
To repair the defect, Ford dealers will update the image processing module software. Ford will begin mailing notification letters on October 20, with a final remedy expected to be ready by March 2025. All repairs will be done at no cost to the owners.
Ford’s Recall Troubles Continue
These two major recalls make yet another setback for the company, which has seen record-breaking recall numbers in recent years. In the first half of 2025, it is reported that Ford has issued 89 separate recalls, surpassing any automaker’s previous record of recalls in a full year. The previous record was held by General Motors with 77 recalls in 2014.
Despite repeated promises from CEO Jim Farley to improve quality control, Ford is still facing recurring issues across multiple models. In August alone, Ford issued five recalls affecting over 1.3 million vehicles. In September, another recall was issued affecting 100,000 cars due to loose trim components.
A Troubling Pattern Across the Auto Industry
Besides Ford, other automakers including Dodge, Nissan, Chevrolet, Lincoln, and Mitsubishi have also issued safety recalls this year. Collectively, these automakers have recalled more than 1.1 million vehicles nationwide.
However, the size and frequency of Ford recalls have sparked growing concern among regulators and consumers alike. Critical models such as the F-Series, Explorer, and Mustang are under scrutiny. This mounts more pressure on Ford to address what industry analysts term as “persistent quality and supplier issues.”
How to Check If Your Vehicle Is Affected
Owners can check whether their Ford vehicle is part of the latest recall by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the NHTSA’s recall website. Owners are also urged to contact Ford’s customer service line at 1-866-436-7332 for further assistance.
Conclusion
If you own a 2015-2017 Ford Mustang or a 2020-2022 F-Series Super Duty pickup, your vehicle could be part of this massive recall. It’s recommended that you check your VIN immediately and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Doing so will prevent a serious safety risk down the road.
