FC Barcelona‘s financial situation in recent years has not been the best and, although there are some green shoots, it seems that the summer transfer market is still complicated for Deco, the club’s sporting director, and his team. Having the 1:1 rule does not prevent FC Barcelona from having to generate ‘fair play’ to sign players in the summer by investing the equivalent amount of sales and salary savings.
In the last few hours, RAC1 has reported that there is no guarantee that Barça will be able to take advantage of the 1:1 rule on July 1, that is, that for every euro of salary savings, another can be spent. This doubt that leaves the application of the rule up in the air would be due to the fact that LaLiga has questioned one of Barça‘s two operations for VIP seats (the one carried out with New Era Visionary Group, from the United Arab Emirates) in its allegations sent to the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) for the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. Furthermore, the club will not return to the Camp Nou within the timeframe initially planned, so the stipulated income for its return to the remodeled Spotify Camp Nou will not be met.
Improvement of Barça’s salary cap
FC Barcelona has achieved a considerable improvement in its salary cap, reaching a significantly higher figure than a year ago. This increase has been possible thanks to LaLiga’s authorization of the 1:1 system on January 5th, following the presentation of the agreement for the exploitation of the future boxes at the Camp Nou. This operation has had a positive impact on the club’s financial capacity, allowing it greater room for maneuver.
Another situation in which Barça is working to achieve greater fair play is the extension of Lewandowski’s contract, which could help to prorate his contract, that is to say, the amount to be received between 2026 and 2027 would be distributed between the two seasons, something that would help the club to have greater ‘fair play’.
