Alexander-Arnold and the Club World Cup: here’s how things stand right now

The demand on Real Madrid is at its highest. Despite the fact that the Whites are still alive in all competitions to date, the season is not proving easy for the club. Throughout the year the team has not performed to the level expected given the squad it has. The embarrassing defeat in both matches against FC Barcelona this season, especially in the Spanish Super Cup final, has led to changes in the club’s offices, aware that the team needs to replace some members of the squad if they want to continue to aspire to win everything in the coming years.

The players in the spotlight

This Wednesday Real Madrid has one of its first big tests of the season. The return leg against Atlético de Madrid could mark a turning point for some of the Whites’ players, even if they don’t play in the game.

The first of these is Lucas Vázquez. The Galician footballer has been at Real Madrid for several years now, winning five Champions League titles with the team. However, his performance this season is showing that he is one step away from becoming a first team regular. With Dani Carvajal injured, his role has gone from secondary to primary. In games against weaker opponents, he has performed well on the wing, but not to the extent of earning praise. However, in the important games his current shortcomings have come to the fore, to the point that it seems that Fede Valverde will start in Wednesday’s game, as he did in the first leg a week ago.

Kylian Mbappé is another player with his future at stake. The young French footballer seems to have completely stalled in his development. His season has been lacklustre, well below expectations. His constant mistakes, his excessive impetuosity and bad decisions have cost Real Madrid several points and a few titles this season. The board of directors would not look unfavourably on his departure if a good offer were to come in for the player.

Mendy and Fran García also have a lot at stake this season. The Frenchman is indisputably important to Ancelotti in defensive terms, but his shortcomings in attack make him dispensable to the team. In the case of Fran García, his progress is not as expected. He is getting more playing time than last season, but he is not convincing in defense or in attack. Although it is unlikely that both will leave, it is possible that one of them will leave Real Madrid next season.

Tchouamén’s situation takes a turn for the better

Aurélien Tchouamén has taken a qualitative leap in recent matches, coinciding with his return to the midfield. Despite his improvement, the directors are still not convinced about the footballer’s abilities, and they consider that if a good offer arrives, they could consider his transfer. The French footballer will be in the starting eleven against Atlético de Madrid, and his performances between now and the end of the season will decide his future.

Carlo Ancelotti, at the expense of the results

The Italian coach also has a lot at stake as the season draws to a close. Carlo Ancelotti has not been able to find the key to getting Real Madrid to play the game they are supposed to. If he does not win the league title or the Champions League, it is almost certain that he will no longer be Real Madrid’s coach. Being the most successful coach in the club’s history does not guarantee anyone a job for next year.

The demands of Real Madrid can overcome anything, we insist that the track record that each one has under their belt is worthless. When things don’t work out, things have to change in this team, so the remainder of the season will be decisive for some members of the current squad.
