As we move further into 2025, millions of Americans who rely on Social Security are asking a simple but important question: When will I get my April payment? With the rising cost of living and new legislation coming into play, staying on top of the schedule has never been more important-especially for retirees, people with disabilities, and low-income beneficiaries.

For many, Social Security is more than just a paycheck-they are a financial lifeline. With more than 72 million Americans receiving benefits each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a set calendar to make sure payments go out on time. Whether you’re receiving retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or disability payments, knowing exactly when your April check will arrive can help you stay financially prepared.

How the April 2025 payment schedule works

The SSA generally sends payments based on your date of birth and the type of benefit you receive. For most people, this means you will receive your check on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month. But as always, things like weekends or holidays can cause minor shifts.

April 2025 follows the standard pattern – but there are a few updates you’ll want to know about, especially following the recently passed Social Security Fairness Act.

April 2025 Social Security payment dates:

April 1, 2025: SSI recipients will be paid. Since April 1 falls on a Tuesday, no delays are expected. This check will include the 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
April 3, 2025: Those who began receiving Social Security before May 1997, or who receive both SSI and regular Social Security, will receive their payment on this date.
April 9, 2025: If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th, expect your payment on the second Wednesday.
April 16, 2025: Birthdays between the 11th and 20th? Your payment will be on the third Wednesday.
April 23, 2025: If you were born between the 21st and 31st, your payment will be scheduled for the fourth Wednesday.
These dates are confirmed on SSA’s 2025 calendar, so you can count on them unless something unexpected delays processing.

What about the new Social Security Fairness Act?

The Social Security Fairness Act, passed in January 2025, eliminated two major provisions – WEP and GPO – that had reduced payments for millions of public sector workers. If you were affected, you’ll still receive your April payment on the standard Wednesday schedule (April 9, 16, or 23), but your payment amount may be higher than usual. SSA will send you a notice in the mail with details about any increase.

Didn’t get your payment?

If your money doesn’t arrive on time, don’t panic. The SSA suggests waiting at least three business days after your expected payment date before contacting them. Then you can call 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local office for help.

Knowing when your April Social Security payment is coming will give you peace of mind-and help you plan for the month ahead. Between the routine payment schedule and the positive changes from recent legislation, April 2025 is shaping up to be a remarkable month for many Americans who receive benefits. Be sure to check your SSA account and keep an eye on your mailbox for updates.
