The economic problems of FC Barcelona seem to have no end. The club is living in Groundhog Day. In January, the registration of Dani Olmo was already a real soap opera that is now about to have a definitive resolution and everything indicates that the summer market, if there are no major sales, will be more of the same.

LaLiga is clear with Barça

In the last few hours, LaLiga issued a statement on the Barça situation in which it was categorical that Barça does not currently have the funds or capacity to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor and that, contrary to what the club has stated, its interim financial statements for the first half of the 2024-2025 season do not include any amount relating to the VIP box operation.

“According to the aforementioned Interim Financial Statements, and in application of the Budgeting Standard, FC Barcelona, with the signing of said corporate operation, did not have on December 31, 2024, or January 3, 2025, or has had since that date, nor does it currently have, nor has it ever had, the balance or registration capacity, which is publicly known as ‘Fair Play’, for the registration of the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor”, he explained.

Laporta: “It’s an attempt to destabilize our team”

The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, said that the statement is an attempt to destabilize his team just before the Copa semi-final against Atlético. “Today we are playing a final against Atlético de Madrid and the reactivation of controversies of this kind is not by chance. It is yet another attempt to destabilize our team and sometimes I get the feeling that what they can’t beat us on the field with, they want to beat us on in the offices“.

“As president of Barcelona I am not going to allow this and I am going to continue defending the interests of the club, also defending our members, fans and athletes”, said Laporta.

Can Barça sign in the summer?

The fact that LaLiga ensures that Barça, for financial reasons, cannot register means that it is no longer subject to the 1-1 rule and will return to the 1-4 rule. In other words, the Blaugrana club will only be able to use 25 percent of the money it saves on first team wage costs, making it very difficult to go to the market.

As far as the market is concerned, Barça has many issues to resolve and may be more than obliged to transfer some of its important players if it wants to strengthen itself in the market. There is money, but the salary cap has been greatly exceeded, that is, it could sign players, but not register them.
