Lamine Yamal did not have his best game against Real Betis, but the youth academy graduate is undisputed for Hansi Flick and one of the men of the season. His numbers in terms of assists and dribbles make him one of the best wingers in the world today and it is for these reasons that the player and his agent want a contract commensurate with his work.
Lamine Yamal’s current contract expires in 2026, and although there is a ‘verbal agreement’ to extend it until 2030 when he turns 18, the lack of financial guarantees is thought to have caused the player’s renewal to be stalled. If Barça do not manage to renew his contract before December 31st of this year, Lamine could negotiate with other clubs from January 1st, 2026 and leave for free on June 30th of that same year.
This seems unlikely as the desire of both parties is clear. Although the club is not currently in the 1:1 rule due to the issue of VIP seats, the forecast is that everything will be resolved during the month of May and, from there, the signing of the ’19’ will be assured.
The negotiation of the contract extension is being handled with enormous secrecy on all sides. Lamine’s worth is no longer just about his salary. He also makes the Barça brand richer. That is what his agent, Jorge Mendes, who works with Deco, with whom he has a good relationship, understands, in harmonizing as far as possible his ambitions with those of the club.
The idea of the Barcelona club is to secure its greatest asset for a further five years, until June 2030, and the footballer sees no option other than to continue his career as a “culé”. However, aware of his importance within the team, the footballer has expressed to his agent, Jorge Mendes, his desire to sign a new contract in line with his status.
FC Barcelona have shown their willingness to meet Lamine’s expectations by paying an estimated salary of between 7 and 10 million euros per season, although a higher figure is not ruled out. The date for signing Lamine’s new contract is July 13-14, when he turns 18, but everything previously discussed with Mendes is verbal and subject to review, as the club admits.
