Aston Martin confirms a new package of upgrades for the upcoming races. They are working flat out at Silverstone to bring new features to the AMR25 and improve the car as soon as possible.
Aston Martin already has a date for the updates
Aston Martin has set the big package of upgrades for the AMR25, with which they hope to make a leap up the grid, for the Italian Grand Prix, which takes place on May 18th at the Imola circuit. With these updates, Aston Martin aims to improve the aerodynamic and top speed problems that have caused them so many problems at the start of this season.
If the effectiveness of this package of upgrades is confirmed, Aston Martin could take an important step forward in the standings. With such a close grid, achieving two or three tenths could mean going from the back of the grid to leading the middle and even fighting to be among the top five if the right race circumstances arise.
Surprises for the Miami GP
Although Aston Martin doesn’t want to get its fingers burnt, it is very likely that two weeks before the Italian GP, at the Miami GP we will already be able to see some new developments in the AMR25 in the form of parts, which would be good news for a team that has started the season behind expectations, being one of the worst cars on the current grid.
Doubts about the updates
The new updates raise several questions: the first is that in recent years, whenever Aston Martin has included new parts in the car, far from improving, it has made the car worse. Since 2023, when the team achieved 8 podiums with Fernando Alonso at the wheel, each of the updates has made the car worse. The work at the end of the 2023 and 2024 seasons has been of no use, the return to the tracks has brought but a single-seater. We will see how this new package behaves.
The second question that it raises is how new things can arrive at the Miami GP. This weekend there is a sprint race. This means that there will only be one session, Free Practice 1, to test how this new package adapts before the first qualifying session. It is not the first time that Aston Martin has used new parts in a sprint weekend, and the results have been quite negative, so the team is considering waiting until the Italian Grand Prix to test the new components of the AMR25.
Finally, Aston Martin is aware that this date is marked on the calendar of most teams to bring upgrades. Whoever gets them right will be able to make a significant leap in the standings.
Limited resources and abandonment of the AMR25
Aston Martin has limited resources for the current season. As confirmed by Grada3, there are several working groups in charge of the evolution of the AMR25, but most of the employees are focused on the year 2026. As these working groups conclude their updates, they will move on to the 2026 organizational chart. In this sense, the team in charge of the updates for the month of May will become part of the AMR26 work team, so the current car will be left alone over the years.
There will still be another group of employees dedicated to Aston Martin after the May updates, but the situation will be similar. As they complete their work, they will be incorporated into the AMR26 working group. Therefore, Aston Martin is playing this season with very few resources and, if they do not achieve upgrades, there will be no margin for rectification for the final stretch of the season. For this reason, Aston Martin is working incessantly, and hopes that with new additions such as Adrian Newey, it will allow the team to rank among the best.
