At Aston Martin, they are working very hard to get the next improvements ready for an AMR25 that needs anything that makes the car a little more competitive. The start of the season has been devastating for the Silverstone team, who are looking for a way to turn the season around and be able to place the car in the middle of the grid.
But these improvements are going to be a turning point for Aston Martin. Whatever happens with them, the car will be left alone for the rest of the championship, as the team that remains at the helm of the AMR25 will move up the organizational chart for next season.
Improvements for Aston Martin
Aston Martin is already preparing its package of improvements to right the course of the AMR25. It won’t be this week in Saudi Arabia, we’ll still have to wait a couple more weeks until we get to Miami. This weekend, between May 4th and 5th, the team will introduce a small package of updates to their car.
They will be minimal, but they will be something more than what the car has now, and they hope to be able to implement them correctly, since the Miami weekend is a sprint race, so the team will only have Free Practice 1 to achieve the best configuration. Although it should be borne in mind that Aston Martin is one of the teams that attaches least importance to these weekends, so the objective in qualifying and the sprint race will be to find the best configuration for the race.
And the next race, the Italian GP on May 18 in Italy, at the Imola circuit, the first race of the year on European soil, is expected to see the first big package of updates, in which the Silverstone team has high hopes that the AMR25 will take a step forward, with which they hope the car will not only consolidate in the middle of the pack.
They hope to be regularly in the points and be able to compete, if the race conditions are right, for a place in the top five. These updates come under the supervision and guidelines of Adrian Newey, who has been more focused on the AMR26, but has dedicated some time to looking at the performance of the current car.
Aston Martin abandons the AMR25
As Grada3 was able to confirm several weeks ago, there are currently two small work groups at Aston Martin focused on the AMR25. The rest of the factory is focused on next season, when new regulations will be introduced and Aston Martin has high hopes of becoming, once and for all, one of the benchmark teams in F1.
Once the optimization work to be incorporated into the Miami and Italian Grands Prix is completed, one of these small work groups will put an end to their work on the current car, to join the organizational chart of the AMR26.
There will still be a small group left over from the AMR25 to be able to introduce another package of improvements, at least, in the second half of the championship. Once this team has finished its work, they will also disengage from the current project to focus on next season.
Therefore, the next updates will be key to seeing how the Aston Martin will perform during the season. It is to be expected that the majority of teams will follow a similar plan to the British team, so the teams will have to ride until the end of the season with what they have. These updates will show us if Fernando Alonso is capable of placing the AMR25 among the best cars on the grid or, on the contrary, if it will continue to be one of the worst cars.
