Adrian Newey has arrived at Aston Martin to take the team to the next level. The aim is for the AMR26, next season’s car under the new regulations, to be able to fight for the top of the F1 grid. Unfortunately, F1’s most successful engineer also took a look at the settings of the AMR25 on his arrival, but his work would be focused solely on next season.
Adrian Newey and his arrival at Aston Martin
Adrian Newey is one of Lawrence Stroll‘s big bets on Aston Martin becoming one of the leading F1 teams from 2026. The challenge is a complicated one, especially for a team that currently has one of the worst cars on the grid, but the technological revolution, the investment in hiring some of today’s best engineers, and the recently opened wind tunnel, point to a hopeful future for the Silverstone team.
In Adrian’s case, he has only been working for Aston Martin for just over a month. He joined on March 3rd and from day one, he has focused on designing a car that, together with the power unit from Honda, the team’s new collaborator for 2026, can stand up to the best in F1.
Adrian Newey’s work with the AMR25
Adrian Newey is focused on the development of the AMR26 and his influence and work in the current championship is non-existent. However, he doesn’t stop looking sideways at the AMR25 performance through the new wind tunnel that Aston Martin has unveiled, and he has his logic. The only way Aston Martin can verify the effectiveness of its new tunnel is to compare the data produced by the new machine with the data from the single-seater during the race.
For this reason, he has one eye on the upcoming updates because, even if indirectly, this will give them information about what is going right and what is going wrong with the AMR25. The data tells them, and with it they can work more efficiently on the AMR26. Meanwhile, the working group that is working on the AMR25 and will launch the updates for the next races will abandon the current car to focus on 2026. This will leave only one working group focused on the current season to develop the latest package of improvements, which will be minimal, and be ready for the second half of the championship.
Aston Martin updates
The next package of updates for the AMR25 is imminent (and more necessary than ever), and is expected to arrive at the Miami F1 GP, which takes place on the first weekend in May. This package will include small improvements for Fernando Alonso‘s car, although they will arrive at a complicated weekend, with a sprint race. However, the second package will arrive two weeks later, at the Italian Grand Prix, which is held at the Imola circuit. This package will be much more extensive and Aston Martin hopes to take a big step forward in getting the AMR25 out of the back of the grid and into the middle.
The performance of these updates will become a fundamental part of Adrian Newey’s data to understand the aerodynamic data from the wind tunnel and be able to apply improvements to the AMR26.
Adrian Newey‘s work at Aston Martin is focused on the 2026 car, and although he has no influence on the AMR25, he is keeping an eye on developments and updates to see how they work and to better understand the wind tunnel and have all the keys in his hand to build the car with which Aston Martin will seek to take on the 2026 World Championship.
