In Saturday’s final at La Cartuja, there is more at stake than just the title between Barça and Real Madrid. Ferran Torres and Endrick are vying for the competition’s top scorer award. The Barça striker and the young Real Madrid forward are tied with five goals, the same number with which Julián Álvarez ended his participation in this tournament.
As we said, both now have five goals, after scoring one each in the semi-final second legs against Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad. Therefore, the cup final is the moment to break the tie, provided that Flick and Ancelotti decide to start them or bring them on at some point during the match.
Ferran Torres has scored five goals in four games (one in the round of 16 against Betis, a hat trick against Valencia in the quarterfinals, and another in the semifinal second leg against Atlético Madrid). Endrick, meanwhile, has scored the same number of goals, but in one more game (a brace against Celta in the round of 16, another against Leganés in the quarterfinals, as well as finding the net in both legs of the semifinals against Real Sociedad).
If Ferran Torres and Endrick fail to score, there will be a three-way tie at the top of the 2024-25 Copa del Rey scoring charts. Both players have performed well this season without enjoying as much playing time as they would have liked. Lewandowski, meanwhile, has three goals and could draw level with the leaders with a brace.
A priori, Ferran Torres has a better chance of finding the net and winning the title, as Lewandowski’s injury means he is likely to start the final alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, while Endrick will have to wait for his chance in the second half, if he gets it.
This is what coach Hansi Flick had to say about the Shark in the run-up to the final: “I think Ferran, also in the Cup, has shown that he can play as a number 9, against Betis, Valencia… he did very well. It’s a very good position for him. Lewy can’t play. Ferran knows how to play in this position. It doesn’t affect Lamine or Raphinha, they just have to adapt to another player in that position with different strengths. I’m delighted to have Ferran.”
