Little or nothing good can be said about Aston Martin‘s performance in 2025. Expectations at the beginning of the year were not very high, or rather, they were high compared to what we have seen on the track so far. The AMR25 is fighting not to be the worst car on the grid, something unthinkable at the beginning of the year. Now Aston Martin is looking for solutions, and they are hopeful, but there is a fear of saying so, as each of the updates in recent years has been a step backwards, and they fear that the same could happen again.

Alonso pessimistic about Aston Martin

The first to confirm that there will be updates for the next race was Fernando Alonso himself at the end of the Miami Grand Prix, but he was pessimistic about the updates. However, there is something that stands out. Knowing the Oviedo native, his messages are calm, far from the bombshells he used to drop in the past, and that could suggest two things: resignation or hope.

“Of course new parts will arrive, but they arrive for everyone. We talk about Aston’s as if the others were resting or sleeping. Whatever we take to Imola or the following races, everyone will have it. We will try to make ours bigger, improve as a team, but we have to hope we don’t fail the next time something strange happens.”

Cowell announces changes in Italy, Monaco, and Barcelona

For his part, Andy Cowell, head of Aston Martin, went further and acknowledged that with the problems detected in the new wind tunnel, there will be updates, but not only in Italy, there will also be updates in Monaco and Barcelona.

“We are going to take some parts to Imola,” and ”there will also be new things in Monaco and Barcelona. Some are related to the regulatory change on the stiffness of the front wings.”

On the other hand, the team has its eyes set on next season’s AMR26, and some parts of the new car can be used under this season’s regulations, so they are going to test them to check their performance on the track.

“There are technologies designed for 2026 that we are going to test on the 2025 car. It’s the only way to validate things for the future: if it works in the race, it really works.”

Aston Martin’s goal

Aston Martin’s goal with this package of improvements announced for the next three races is none other than to get back on track and save a season that looks set to be disastrous. They know they won’t be the only teams bringing updates to the next few races, but they are confident they have the best tools available today to make a significant leap forward in the upcoming Grand Prix races.

The truth is that Aston Martin is being very cautious and pessimistic, but the fact is that expectations are much higher than what is being said, and there is a lot of hope that the AMR25 will improve significantly. However, they do not want to sell optimism only to suffer another setback, which is why the statements made by Fernando Alonso and the rest of the team are aligned in terms of temperance and confidence in the work being done.

The new updates will be the first to come out of the new wind tunnel and the new team structure, and the result will be the first real test to see if things are being done right or not. So far, it has been demonstrated that things have been done very badly, but the next few races will be decisive for a team that has invested large amounts of money in creating the most favorable environment to build a world championship team.
