The Real Madrid season could end in disappointment and this is a concern in the Madrid offices where decisions are already being considered. Although one of the main targets is Carlo Ancelotti, whose future also hangs in the balance, there are several players whose performances throughout the season have not been up to the standards expected of footballers wearing the white shirt.
The defensive line has been one of the most affected by injuries throughout the season. The experiments in defense have been a burden for several players who have had to reinvent themselves, but also some who were in their natural position and should have stepped up have been left half-hearted.
Even when thinking about what to do with the defensive line in view of the market, what seems clear in Chamartín is that both flanks will be reinforced. On the right, the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be signed and on the left, after Davies’ rejection in the January market, different options are being considered.
Real Madrid wants a left back
With Ferland Mendy facing criticism for his irregularity, and now injured and with no fixed date for his return to competition; and Fran García not entirely convincing Carlo Ancelotti, the white club is looking for a replacement with guarantees. Over the last few months, different names have been linked with the Real Madrid left-back position. Names like Álvaro Carreras, Andrea Cambiaso who is quite popular at the club and they are following him closely, Nuno Mendes, a footballer who stands out at Paris Saint-Germain with Luis Enrique, or Milos Kerkez (21 years old) who has become, on his own merits, a mainstay of the Bournemouth project.
The favorites for the position
Although, as we said, different names have been linked with the list of options for Real Madrid to reinforce the left side of the defense, there are two preferred candidates noted in Florentino Pérez’s agenda. Real Madrid have set their sights on Nuno Mendes, a player who stands out at Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique.
The young player, 22 years old, has a great future ahead of him and that is something that catches the attention of Real Madrid. The Portuguese defender is one of the ‘favorites’ of the club’s sporting management, but PSG are not willing to negotiate for a player who is a regular starter for Luis Enrique.
The other option is Miguel Gutiérrez, who is now shining and arousing the interest of many of Europe’s top teams. The Whites have a play-off option, so Florentino Pérez has to make a decision between now and the end of the season.
Daniél Méndez, Miguel Gutiérrez’s agent, said just a few days ago that “we would like and would love Real Madrid to give Miguel Gutiérrez a play-off. Everyone knows what he wants, but it’s not up to him. If he returns to Real Madrid we will all be happy,” he said. ‘Miguel’s wish is clear, but it is not up to him. We will try to find a decision that is right for everyone,’ he continued.
Miguel Gutiérrez (23 years old) is confirming that his great last season was no accident. His performance at Girona, which is now only active in the league but has participated in three competitions, is more than remarkable.
