The Champions League draw has thrown up a Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid in the last sixteen. Both teams are now immersed in the fight for the LaLiga title and now their paths also cross in the European competition. So far, Cholo Simeone’s team had an easy ride, being among the best eight in the previous round, while the Whites had to play a preliminary round in which they left Manchester City behind.

And Carlo Ancelotti’s team are in the last sixteen after two magical European nights to which their fans are already accustomed. In the first leg at the Etihad, Carlo Ancelotti’s side twice came back from Haaland goals, first Mbappé and then Brahim equalized, and then in the last gasp Bellingham made it 2-3. With that advantage they arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday 19th where an excellent Mbappé with a hat-trick gave the Sky Blues no chance.

Now it’s time to get back to work in a derby that not so long ago was played in the league and at the Santiago Bernabéu. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, which opened up the championship and allowed FC Barcelona to close the gap. In recent weeks, neither side has been lucky in the domestic competition, which has allowed the Catalans to move into first place, level on points with the Whites and one point below Atlético.
