The renewal of Vinicius by Real Madrid has returned to the spotlight in recent days. The player’s entourage and agent are keeping a calm exterior, but the truth is that they want to settle the player’s renewal as soon as possible. However, Real Madrid is not currently willing to address the issue and prefers to wait until the end of the season.
Vinicius’ future
The offer Vinicius received from Saudi Arabia back in February shook the foundations of the Santiago Bernabéu, and with good reason. After several attempts in recent years, which were rejected by the player and Florentino Pérez, the latest attempt has seen a change of heart, simply because the player has shown himself to be open to considering the possibility.
Becoming the highest-paid athlete of all time, earning $1 billion a year for five seasons, tax-free, is a temptation that would make more than one person think twice. But the Brazilian is aware that many of his sporting goals would vanish into thin air if he accepted the Arab football offer. One of those goals is personal: winning the Ballon d’Or, something the footballer does not want to give up. He wants that recognition and knows that there is no better place to achieve it than Real Madrid. In the last edition, he came second, beaten by Rodri, and he knows that in the next edition it will not be easy given the team’s season and his poor form on the pitch. So he has no choice but to try again, and to do that, he knows that the best option is to stay at Real Madrid.
The second aspect is also sporting, both personal and collective. He knows that moving to Saudi Arabia would mean a setback in his sporting career at the highest level. Although it would not jeopardize his place in the national team, he would be giving up the chance to compete in prestigious competitions such as the Champions League, a stage that every footballer wants to be a part of above all else.
In this sense, the player does not see himself signing such a long contract. Vinicius will turn 25 this July, which means that his contract in Saudi Arabia would end when he turned 30, an age that begins to pose a problem for a footballer’s performance.
Renewal with Real Madrid
Florentino Perez and Vinicius are bound to come to an agreement, but the Real Madrid president has no intention of agreeing to the Brazilian player’s demands, who wants to be the highest-paid player on the team: he is asking for a salary of around €30 million per season and a contract until 2030. This stance is far removed from what Real Madrid would offer him, which is closer to €20 million per season. Furthermore, Real Madrid believe that the Brazilian is not in a position to demand anything given the poor season he is having.
The Brazilian’s contract expires on June 30, 2027, and he could be a free agent from that date. Real Madrid risks losing the player if it does not agree to his demands, but Florentino Pérez does not seem to care. He has shown that Real Madrid is above individual players and would not hesitate to prove it again.
Despite pressure from Vinicius to finalize his renewal as soon as possible, Real Madrid is calling the shots, and the matter will not be revisited until the team’s season has ended. Although everything points to a renewal, neither party is ruling out another scenario.
