While the Real Madrid squad faces the final month of the championship with hopes of winning LaLiga, in the offices of the Santiago Bernabéu, work is underway to turn around a squad that needs changes. Several positions need to be revamped so that the current squad, which remains highly competitive, can take a leap forward that will allow it to fight for everything again this season.

The club has confidence in its core players, as evidenced by the fact that this season, despite the team’s poor form, it has fought for everything until April (and can still win LaLiga). The priority positions to strengthen are the full-backs (Alexander-Arnold seems a done deal) and a midfielder. In this regard, the chosen player is Alexis Mac Allister.

Problems in midfield

Whether due to poor planning that did not take into account injuries during the season, excessive confidence in what was available, or a lack of ambition among the players, the truth is that Real Madrid has suffered this season in midfield, where defensive disorganization and a lack of clarity when it comes to passing and playing the ball have been the predominant features throughout the season.

Several players have been linked with Real Madrid, such as Zubimendi and Wirtz. The Real Sociedad player was one of those who seemed to be gaining ground to become a Real Madrid player. His role as a defensive midfielder, his intensity in the middle of the park, and his quality when playing the ball out of defense put him in a privileged position. However, it seems that he will finally be heading to the Premier League.

With Florian Wirtz, the situation is different. He is a more offensive player, playing closer to the area, a position that is covered at Real Madrid. Although he is a player who is liked, and liked a lot, his high price tag is another reason why Florentino Pérez has decided not to sign him for next season, but he is being closely monitored to see how he develops and with a view to signing him in the summer of 2026.

Alexis Mac Allister, the best placed

At the moment, Alexis Mac Allister is the player Real Madrid likes the most. The Argentine footballer from Liverpool is an all-round midfielder. He can play defensively and his enormous range allows him to get into dangerous areas in attack. He has great vision and good ball control. And he has one of the hallmarks of Argentine football, a tireless fighting spirit and dedication that make him an ideal addition to a Real Madrid midfield that has been lacking in these qualities.

Alexis Mac Allister was one of Carlo Ancelotti’s favorites for next season, as José Felix Díaz reveals in MARCA, but his departure from Real Madrid could alter plans that seemed to be on track: it remains to be seen whether Xabi Alonso will request his signing. He has certainly been following him closely, as the San Sebastian-born coach keeps a close eye on Liverpool, one of his former teams as a professional footballer.

Real Madrid needs to strengthen its midfield for next season, and with Zubimendi and Wirtz almost ruled out, Alexis Mac Allister becomes a preferred option. His attitude on the field, his versatility in midfield, his dedication, and his fighting spirit make him the ideal player to strengthen a midfield that looks set to be very different from previous seasons.
